So, the Ninja and I do this thing from time to time (read: pretty much all the time) where we sort of accidentally plot out an entire fic in a chat together?  95% of the time the idea just languishes in our respective chat logs, never again to see the light of day.  BUT SOMETIMES we think, “Hey, maybe if we put this on the internet, someone will actually write it for us.” o.o

All of which is to say: PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE DO THIS.  This fic is officially up for grabs; anyone who wants to turn it into an actual thing, with like, proper structure and whatnot, DO IIIIIIIIT.  Pretty please.

In case anyone’s wondering, this began when the Ninja saw something sad on Tumblr and demanded I give her a happy story.  I, um.  Am not very good at “happy”?  But I managed a sort of bittersweet melancholy, which I figure is close enough. XD  Plus it has a happy ending, so that totally counts.

Ninja:TELL ME SOMETHING HAPPY

Ninja:… BUT MAGICAL.

Me:um

Me:damn 😆

Me:okay! okay, i’ve got it.

Me:when derek was little, he used to go wandering in the woods by himself

Me:because he was the youngest, and he wasn’t allowed to roughhouse with his older siblings/cousins

Ninja:awww, bb!

Me:and there was this cave where he liked to play

Me:he’s pretty sure he wouldn’t be allowed there, which is why he’s never asked

Ninja:as all intelligent children soon learn to do!

Me:and the cave is his very favorite place

Me:because that’s where his imaginary friend lives
